Half Goal Asian Handicap

This type of handicap is the simplest one to settle; we said that you cannot bet on Draw in Asian Handicap, but some outcomes may result in a draw; however, there's no that option in half-goal asians - your bet is either won, either lost, there's nothing in between.

One of the teams is given an integer and a half goals headstart; for example 0.5 goals (AH +0.5), 1.5 goals (AH +1.5), 2.5 goals (AH +2.5), etc. The other team is, apparently, handicapped for the same number of goals.

To settle the half-goal asian handicap, follow the same rules you learned in previous step, for full goal handicaps:

First, calculate the Goal Supremacy; if your handicap applies to home team, Goal Supremacy is calculated as Home team goals minus Away team goals; if handicap applies to away team, Goal Supremacy is calculated as Away team goals minus Home team goals.

Second, just add your handicap to the Goal Supremacy.

In this case, we will obviously get the result which is not an integer number - it will be half of the integer, so it cannot be zero, it can only be positive or negative. Just like in earlier cases, if result is positive (+0.5, +1.5, etc.), your bet has won; if result is negative, your bet has lost (-0.5, -1.5, etc.).

Please note that I carved term "Goal Supremacy" only for the purpose of easier understanding in this tutorial, so you should not confuse it with the same term that might be used in other sites.

Example

We will use again an example to turn calculation theory into practice.

Ajaccio lost at home to Nice, 0-2, barely escaping the releagtion, and Nice securing their place in Europa league.

If you had any bet on Ajaccio, goal supremacy was -2; otherwise, if you placed any bet on Nice, goal supremacy was +2.

So, if you had a bet on Ajaccio +2.5 AH or any higher (+3.5 AH, etc.), your bet was won; if you had a bet on Ajaccio +1.5 AH or any lower (+0.5 AH, -1.5 AH, etc.), your bet was lost.

If you had a bet on Nice -2.5 AH or any lower (-3.5 AH, etc.), your bet was lost; if you had a bet on Nice -1.5 AH or any higher (-0.5 AH, +0.5 AH, etc.), your bet was won.

Tip

Is there something in behaviour of half-goal asian handicap that resembles you of similar market you've seen before?

Look at Home +0.5 AH and Home -0.5 AH bets. If you bet on team +0.5 AH, your bet will win if your team wins or draws the match; so, it actually acts like double chance, Home win or Draw. In similar way, Home -0.5 AH acts like double chance Draw or Away win. The similar logic applies to Away +0.5 AH and Away -0.5 AH bets.

There is another possibility to acquire the same effect as double chance: laying at betting exchanges. If you lay Home team in 1X2 market, the outcome is the same as betting on double chance Draw or Away win, and vice versa.
